    Feels like moisturizer
I really like thrive sunscreen so much! It goes on like a moisturizer. I wore it floating down the river all day long, reapplied ever so often, and never got sunburnt. Now I wear thrive everyday over my moisturizer. I’m in the 60s age group, very serious review here!!!!

Great on medium skin-tones, minimal white-cast
I used this during my weeklong trip in Hawaii after reading reviews from Wirecutter and it’s great! I’ve tried about 5+ brands of well-rated, reef-safe sunscreens and they tend to be really thick and uncomfortable and have a really strong white cast. With a mineral and reef-safe sunscreen, you’re always going to have a bit of that, but this is the best out of the ones I’ve tried. It spreads on easily, and the white-cast is minimal. I have a medium skintone (Y405 MUFE) and I applied this on my face and body. When swimming (after waiting the standard 15 min), the white cast is a lot more apparent but that’s to be expected.I didn’t have any issues with breakouts on this and it spreads easily for a mineral sunscreen. Knowing that I’m not destroying the reefs (based on Wirecutter) makes me happy to re-purchase this next time I take a tropical vacation.

    Best facial sunscreen and moisturizer
There is a lot to like about this product. It moisturizes and protects my skin from the sun beautifully. It’s the only daytime moisturizer I need. I have very sensitive skin and it doesn’t irritate my skin at all, not even my eyelid area which is extra sensitive. It doesn’t have an overly perfumed or aggressive fragrance. It easily absorbs into my skin without leaving any residue and a little goes a long way. It’s also environmentally friendly as the bottle is made from recycled plastic, the ingredients are ocean and reef friendly, and it supports regenerative farming. Plus, the bottle is designed so the liquid inside will naturally flow down towards the opening and you don’t have to try to squeeze or shake the bottle to get access to all of it.

    Buy this sunscreen
Love this sunscreen! Not only is it reef safe, but Thrive doesn’t leave a white cast and it dries quickly so it that it doesn’t feel greasy. My face remains a bit shiny but I don’t mind it. Regretting that I didn’t buy the bigger bottle.

    Protection from sun
This goes on easily, has a slight white tint. Don’t worry, it goes away in a few minutes. Pleasant scent and reef safe. Most importantly protected my skin from the sun in Hawaii. Used every day of my trip and did not get a sunburn. Will buy again

Works but lingers like bad houseguests!
This sunscreen is so greasy I thought I’d accidentally rubbed crisco on my skin. It lingers like a bad houseguest! If you touch anything after putting this on, it’s game over: your phone, your clothes, your car upholstery—all victims. My dog brushed against me and left looking like he got hit by an oil slick. If you’re looking for a sunscreen that doubles as a slip-n-slide starter kit, this one’s for you!

    Best reef-safe sunblock
I tried around 8 different reef safe sunblocks. Australian Gold and Thrive were the best. The only reef safe sunblocks are those that use either non-micronized Zinc Dioxide, or non-micronized Titanium Dioxide. Any sunblock with other active ingredients may claim to be reef safe, but it isn’t.Why wear reef safe sunblock? All water goes to the ocean eventually, so I try to use this stuff as much as I can. But you especially should wear it if you’re going anywhere near a tropical coral reef. They’re vital ecosystems that are having enough trouble as it is. Hawaii has already banned a few of the most harmful ingredients, though there are still plenty out there that are still technically allowed.Thrive spreads more easily and evenly than anything else I’ve tried. If you’re concerned with the aesthetics of lotion that is visibly white, definitely go with Thrive. It’s pretty oily, but that oil allows the mineral sunscreen to be evenly distributed, even on hairy skin. This is from the perspective of someone who is relatively pale, so I don’t know about people with darker skin. My guess is that is would visibly lighten you a tiny bit, but since it spreads so evenly, the lightness will be uniform.I would also argue that Thrive, along with most other mineral sunblocks, is functionally better than chemical sunblock. It protects you for longer, and stays on longer while you’re submerged in water. That said, Australian Gold is king when it comes to being functionally the best (it’s also cheaper). Thrive is cosmetically the best, and will probably protect you just as well if you aren’t going in the water. One more word of warning, if you do try Australian Gold. Not all Australian Gold sunblocks are reef safe. They do make non reef safe, chemical sunblocks… make sure you buy the ones that say “botanical.” As far as I know Thrive does not make a non reef-safe sunscreen, so that’s another good reason to go with Thrive, to reward the company that has more responsible practices.
