Sponges is a book for creatives, designed to help you to understand the complexity, the uniqueness and the demand of your gifting and your wiring. Historically, the church hasn’t provided a place for creatives or prophetic individuals because, in truth, most churches either didn’t understand the multifarious giftings of the Holy Spirit and/or some were bound by the traditions established by man hundreds of years ago. The world, on the other hand, happily created space for these gifts, and consequently, a shift happened. The world began to benefit from the innumerable gifts, while the church continued to utilize outdated systems and programs, most of which became constricting, rigid and unprofitable. Our gifts then began to use the church as a stepping stool to get the world’s attention; this is why you see so many artists saying they “started out in the church” as if the church is a dimension or so lower than the world. And while we know that we graduate from the world to the church, anytime the world platforms the gifts that we have so easily discarded, people begin to look to the world for answers and affirmation. This gives off the illusion that the world is higher than the church when, in truth, it is not.
