The Proraso Brand Story

Founded in 1908 by Ludovico Martelli, Proraso has been innovating professional highest-quality products in the shaving world for generations, and has evolved to become a staple of Italian culture. From the first Pre-Shave cream in 1948, to now, the Martelli family principles hold true: to create professional, quality products that deliver a pleasurable and impeccable shave, in the barbershop and at home.

Proraso Shaving Cream Sensitive Skin

Proraso Shaving Cream for Sensitive Skin is enriched with Oatmeal Extract and Green Tea for an emollient and soothing effect. It’s the ideal way to calm redness and irritation caused by shaving.

Proraso Shaving Cream in a Tube is still made today in accordance with a rigorous ‘hot soap’-making process, during which it’s left to mature for 3 days, resulting in an ultra-rich soap that, especially with the aid of a brush, produces an incomparably thick, creamy, soft lather. It makes for a close and comfortable shave, while protecting the skin and leaving it soft and hydrated.

How to use:

Soak your Proraso brush in a bowl or cup filled with hot water for 5 – 10 minutes before your shave. Apply a warm, damp towel to your face (or splash face with warm water) to open the pores and prep your face for shaving. Once done, apply your favorite Proraso Pre-Shave Cream. Apply another hot towel, holding it to your face for 15 to 20 seconds. After the brush has soaked, gently squeeze out excess water, still leaving the brush mostly wet. Squeeze about 2cm of your choice of Proraso Shave Cream between the bristles of the brush and massage into your stubble or scruff using circular motion. Dip the tip of your brush back into your hot water and continue working the brush into your facial hair. After a couple minutes of ‘working’ the brush in your facial hair, the shaving cream turns into a creamy and compact lather that will soften all beard types, making shaving a pleasant daily ritual. Shave and rinse face thoroughly. For an optimal experience, finish with another application of your warm, damp towel, followed by your favorite Proraso After Shave Balm or Lotion.

Barber’s choice since 1948 No parabens, no silicones No mineral oil, no SLS No artificial colors No ingredients of animal origin Over 95% natural Made in Italy

Short on time? Apply your favorite Proraso Pre-Shave Cream to your damp face, for optimal results. If using a shaving brush, run it under hot running water for about 30 seconds (if you don’t have time to soak it). Squeeze about 2 centimeter of the Shaving Cream onto your brush, dampen face with warm water, and work the brush into your scruff/stubble. You should be able to achieve an excellent lather in about a minute.

If using your hands, work cream and water together between the palm of your hands until suds begin to form. Apply mixture into your stubble using your fingers, massaging in circular movements until a lather forms. This method also works well if you’re shaving in the shower. Shave and rinse, following with your favorite Proraso After Shave Balm or Lotion.

10 Tips for the Perfect Shave

Morning is the best time to shave

Your skin is at its softest and most relaxed just after you wake up, so the razor glides easier.

Always use a Proraso Pre-Shave Cream

It softens and straightens the hairs, making it easier to apply the shaving cream to your beard and pre-conditions the skin.

Wrap your face in a warm, wet towel

Just like traditional barbers do. Otherwise, shave after your morning shower when the skin is soft and hydrated from the warm water.

The best lather comes from a brush and shaving cream or soap

Applying shaving cream or soap with a brush increases the volume of your beard hair and allows for a closer shave. To build up a rich lather, wet your shaving brush and apply the cream in fast, repeated circular motions to coat the brush bristles well.

While shaving, use a delicate, but firm stroke

Don’t put too much pressure on the razor and follow the lines of your face, always keeping the skin pulled tight.

Keep your razor clean

Rinse the blade with hot water at least once every two swipes of the razor. Residue from past shaves can reduce the blades’ effectiveness and increase the risk of damaging your skin. Also, remember to change your razor often.

For the perfect shave, one pass just doesn’t cut it

Lather your face a second time and repeat the shave.

Don’t neglect your post-shave routine

Rinse your face well and repeatedly to remove any residue.

Always use Proraso After Shave Balm or Lotion

Even if you’ve shaved to perfection, your skin may still feel stressed and will need to be disinfected, restored and softened.

Take care of your skin

Especially if you don’t shave every day, or have problems with ingrown hair, apply a face cream daily.

    Love this product
I like this for shaving legs, underarms, and bikini area. It has some soft like beads that help exfoliate skin prior to shaving. Gentle on bikini area. This is probably primarily a man’s product so the smell is not feminine but I like the shave so it’s not a deal breaker for me.this company is out of Italy and has been in business for a long time and this product has been around the same. I trust products like that and that’s why I decided to try it. My skin is sensitive and this product gave me a close shave with no irritation or dryness. I will be buying this product again. This product is easy to put in a TSA approved bottle for travel as well. A little goes a long way and you can control the consistency from cream to more soapy.I personally like the container it comes in. I usually use a bikini aftershave gel but with this product you can forego it with out any issues and with its ingredients that exfoliate just right you can forgo a prepping body scrub. Personally I like a product that streamlines the amount of products you have to use; it saves time and money and these days more than ever that is an important point for consumers and without sacrificing quality.

    Amazing product!
I’ve never used anything other than commercial foam or gel, and I gotta say this is a game changer! I’ve never had a shave so nice in my life!

This is the best shaving cream I’ve ever used!
This stuff smells amazing and works well with my skin while I’m wet shaving! The lather I get is great as well I will from now on only using the Proraso line of products, I didn’t even know they sell alum blocks too and I’m just finding out about those in general and using the pre-shave, the cream, alum block, and the after shave is what has worked best for me by far!

    texture varies
I use this cream when I don’t have time to use my brush and solid soap shaving cream. This seems to be the best of the tube type creams I have tried over the years. That said, I wish the quality were more consistent: Sometimes it is smooth textured and thick, but other times it is a bit gritty, like fine sand is mixed in. Once it was both – smooth at the start of the tube, and gritty/thick by the time I reached the bottom of the tube. And one time it was a bit runny through the entire tube. All of the different textures gave a decent shave, but it is disconcerting not knowing what is going to come out of the tube! This is the reason I usually use a brush and cake type shaving soap. With a brush, the lather is consistent.

    Very nice
Shaving can fall into one of two categories: a daily/bi-daily inconvenience that should be done as quickly as possible OR a pampering, gentlemanly ritual that requires skill, practice and research that boosts your confidence and self worth. When a career change forced me to be clean shaven, I decided to adopt the latter approach, bought a Feather shavette and jumped down the rabbit hole of men’s skincare and how to really shave. If you’re looking at this product, I suspect you’re in that second category too. Now, I’ve only used this once so far and was unsuccessful in getting a nice foam, like you see on GeoFatBoy BUT the shave was still close and comfortable. Is it objectively better than a can of Barbasol? Idk, but that’s not the whole story. We’re here for the tradition and glamour of old school shaving. So buy this, buy the Musgo products, see what you like. Either way, you’re doing it right.

No irritating allergen formula by Proraso? Yes please!
If you’ve tried other formulations of Proraso (namely the tube formulations), you know it’s going to be a great shave. This sensitive skin version is no exception, it delivers a slick, cushiony lather, whether you face or bowl (scuttle, mug, or what have you) and brush lather. Like the other versions, the lather retains moisture very well, so no drying out on your face or in your bowl.If you’re finding that irritation is a problem, and you’re bouncing from blade manufacturer to blade manufacturer, try this formula. I know some folks have a sensitivity to nickel, or sometimes the hyper-scientific marketing termed blade coatings; this problem is no joke. This formula, with green tea and oatmeal may be just the ticket.Want to try it? Preparation is key for this experiment, so let your face or scalp rest for a few days, to heal and rest; just deal with the stubble, and let the haters hate. Mount up your trusted, tried-and-true blade of choice, and lather up with the sensitive skin magical brew, and have yourself a shave. Be mindful of your technique, because you’ll be more aware of how this formula provides such a solid and pleasant cushion and glide for your razor. Done shaving? Great now hold up…Don’t use your usual post-shave routine. Got an alum block? If not, get one. I suggest the Proraso block, it’s made in ITALY, not CHINA…so you can have a bit more confidence that the block is alum, not some mystery composition. After applying the alum, wait a full minute, and rinse with COLD water, then PAT, not wipe or rub your face dry. Give yourself at least thirty seconds, and apply the sensitive skin post-shave balm, you don’t want to use something with alcohol in it, which may dry out your freshly shaved face or scalp. Next? Reap the benefits of a great shave, without the usual irritation. As always, YMMV with any and all shaving related products.Just a personal note about the fragrance. This formula has what I’d describe as a citrus-like scent. I find it clean, and refreshing. But, you know how it goes, others categorize it as awful. I would say that it is nowhere near as polarizing as the scent of ARKO (urinal cake, anyone?). If you like some of the grapefruit smelling citrus based shaving soaps, creams, and aftershave stuff out there, this will not disappoint.

Lather and shaves well. Would buy again. Would not do soap anymore after this convenience.
