HANDS OF STONE follows the life of Roberto Duran (Edgar Ramirez), the Panamanian fighter who made his professional debut in 1968 as a 16 yearaold and retired in 2002 at the age of 50. In June 1980, he defeated Sugar Ray Leonard (Usher Raymond) to capture the WBC welterweight title, but shocked the boxing world by returning to his corner in their November rematch, famously saying the words ‘no mas’ (no more.)

    A legend in Boxing
Duran was so good in the early part of his career as a lightweight, no one wanted to get in the ring with this man. I still remember him moving up to fight with Sugar Ray Leonard and I still do not believe that Sugar Ray had any idea what he was getting into when he stepped into that first fight. I will always remember that fight! What a battle. Those men were at the peak of their talent and it was an all out war. The second was scheduled too fast and Duran had gotten way too overweight and the short time that the Sugar Ray camp gave him insured he was physically not prepared. In this movie, folks will see just how dominant he was as a lightweight. He had to move up because that was where the $ was to be made and he partying got out of hand.

Hands of Stone on Blu Ray .
Hands of Stone is a biological sports film about Panamanian Boxer Roberto Duran who made his professional Boxing career debut in 1968 as a 16 year old and retired in 2001 age 49 and the only Boxer to have beaten Sugar Ray Leonard only on points with great cast : Edgar Ramirez , Robert De Niro , Usher Raymond IV , Ruben Blades . Ana De Armas – Ellen Barkin – John Turturro and supporting cast .I’m a Boxing fan and saw Roberto Duran being introduced on a main event with the crowed cheering on advertising this movie I forgot all about it till I saw it on the Amazon web page for a good price with a great story , not bad fighting scenes , great picture and sound , some in Spanish with English Subtitles , I read this film wasn’t a financial success with mixed reviews , well all I can say I enjoyed the movie , good show .

    The Story Behind “no mas”
Interesting story that provides much interesting background for this dynamic fighter perhaps best known for his bouts with Ray Leonard in the 80’s. Duran’s younger years in Panama clearly helped form his drive and fearlessness and the film gives a sense of the various challenges the fighter faced. Diniro gives a great performance as Duran’s American trainer who really cares for his fighter, yet is well acquainted with the gritty side of the business. There is enough story here for those who are not fight fans. Others who have followed the sport or especially the Duran/Leonard saga of the 80’s will appreciate learning the details that surrounded these epic battles in pugilistic history.

    Mucho Mas!!
The prior reviews provide the gist of this incredibly MOVING bio about Roberto Duran. For boxing enthusiasts it is a must. Consider this: Duran fought 119 FIGHTS which spanned 43 yearsover 5 decades! Today at 69 he shows NO sign of CTE or any cognitive decline. Unbelievable. My nickname for him is “Head of Diamond”. ¡Viva la campeona Roberto Duran !!

    Great Fighter
This could have been great, but it wasn’t well written and the supporting actors and story line ruined it.

    Really enjoyed this movie.
My son is a sports enthusiast and wanted to watch this movie. I was born and raised in Panama and was well-aware Duran. Win-win for both is us! We really enjoyed the movie.

I enjoyed watching it as I am a huge Duran fan
This is the true story of the legendary Roberto Duran, Manos de Piedra or Hands of Stone! I enjoyed watching it as I am a huge Duran fan! The movie ends with him winning the junior middleweight title in 1983. What they don’t tell the viewer is that six years later he won the middleweight crown in 1989! One of the greatest!
