Nice.
I was looking for some nice hairbrushes. I have used boar brushes in the past and I did like them. However, they did not hold up very well and they were quite difficult to come by. I found this and decided to give it a try. Yes, it is definitely more expensive but if it holds up better than all the cheaper brands then I say, “money well spent.” Feels soooo nice on my head. :o) I have had this for 2 years and it is holding up exceptionally well. Still looks and feels brand new.

Great hairbrush!
This hairbrush is a family favorite. Grandkids love it, we all love this brush. Brush is gentle on the hair yet brushes well and is a high quality product.

Works well
This brush has a good feel in my hand, leaves my hair feeling soft, and is stiff enough to brush my scalp as well as my hair. Where I live the humidity is often very low. This brush does not cause my hair to be as fly away as my nylon brush does.

A few observations worth noting.
For a long, long time (maybe 15 years?) I have been using a synthetic brush from Sally Beauty Supply with bristles that are similar in length, spacing and firmness to the Calcutta. I always really liked it for my fine hair as it breaks easily and the bristles grab loose hairs and prevent them from falling on me or onto the floor. I’m glad I went with the Calcutta both for the above reason and because I appreciate that the bristles are firm enough to reach my scalp. The softer brush made by this manufacturer would have been too soft to accomplish that and I wouldn’t have liked it (my boyfriend has a boar-bristle brush with soft bristles and they just seem to bend when I run it over my hair and barely grab anything). The bristles on this brush are a bit prickly, but probably a necessary feature for reaching the scalp. I don’t much care for the handle; the wood is very lightweight and dry feeling. For the cost of the brush I wish it had a little more heft and a glossy finish which would have made it a little grippier. I will likely add a few coats of varnish, being careful to wrap the bristles beforehand. This will also make the wood more tolerant to water exposure and cleaning. Overall, though, I like this brush, and after manually pulling the oils from my scalp to my ends with my fingers, this brush finished the job nicely, distributing the oils more evenly throughout my hair (it is a fine-textured, medium thickness chin-length bob).As far as price, I’m a pretty frugal person, but I figured a brush like this is something of an investment so I wanted one I wouldn’t have to replace in 2 or 3 years (ultimately spending more than I would have on this brush). The manufacturer also seems like it will be around for a while. In summary, it is my opinion that unless one has a very short, thin head of hair or a super sensitive scalp this is the brush to buy.

Authentic and very well-made
Excellent bristles, comfortable, lightweight wooden handle and nice size (not too big). Love to buy another smaller (travel friendly) size if that were available. Excellent quality brush. German quality.

Not your regular hair brush
This brush consists of ONLY boar bristles, and they are tightly spaced. That means that you cannot comb through to the scalp like you would with nylon brushes that are spaced farther apart. It also means that you are not ripping your hair out. I have found that if I brush my hair in sections the brush glides through much easier and I can really see a difference in how my hair looks and feels afterwards. Natural boar bristles add shine and manageability to my often overly dry hair, and that alone is worth the extra effort to me. Actually, if you watch movies like “Little Women” and pay attention to how they brush their hair, you will see that this is exactly how these brushes are to be used. Remember Scarlett O’Hara, 100 brush strokes nightly? This is the brush to do it with.

?
I donât know anything about this kind of brush. However, the black color of the bristles significantly came off during the first time I used it and 5 or so bristles fell out. I see that a lot of the bristles are now bent over. Iâll definitely still use it until I can no longer do so because it was so expensive. It is beautiful and the wood feels solid but it is not a heavy wood. I have always had a lot of very fine hair. I no longer have as much. If I still did then this would not go through all that hair. The bristles would have to be double the length to do so. I donât know where all these rave hair reviews are coming from. If I had the opportunity to do it again, I would have purchased a similar brush with much longer bristles.

This bristles on this brush are way too soft (not coarse enough) and too pliable and set too close to each other, in order to penetrate the hair, massages the scalp and thoroughly clean the hair shaft. Therefore, it only slides on the hair and renders it totally useless. Very disappointing.
