Daters Handbook

One of my favorite new Hallmark movies
I love a good romantic comedy and enjoy watching many of Hallmark’s movies in this genre. Every once in a while one stands out as being really special for me. These include such movies as “The Christmas Ornament” and “I Do, I Do, I Do”. I’ve now added “Dater’s Handbook to list of movies that I own and will watch over and over again.There is something really special about the relationship that develops between Cass (Meghan Markle) and Robert (Kristoffer Polaha) that rings true as well as being pretty darn romantic and funny, too.It was a real pleasure to see Ms. Markle in a Hallmark movie once again. I’ve seen her in one other (“When Sparks Fly”) as well as her work on “Suits”. Her character in this movie is very different from her prior work that I have seen and she hit the spot perfectly as a driven career woman who gives her love live over to a list of requirements and checklists in the best selling “Dater’s Handbook”.The same is true of Mr. Polaha in this movie. I have seen him in so many other roles, including his work on “Ringer”, “Castle”, a really creepy guy on one show of the TV series “Lethal Weapon” and especially his role as Sgt. Peter Niedermayer on the sadly short series “Backstrom”. My husband and I have so identified him with this role, we simply call him Niedermayer whenever we see him in other movies and series. In “Dater’s Handbook”, he takes on a sweet, charming and utterly romantic character and carries it off to perfection.The movie follows business owner Cass as she recognizes that she has an issue with the men that she chooses to date. When she believes that her assistant has found the love of her life using the Dater’s Handbook, she caves to pressure from her sister to follow the books guidelines which call for a safe, steady and dependable man over one that makes your heart go pitter-pat.Cass ends up dating two very nice men. Robert, a fun-loving and kind-hearted man who doesn’t quite live up to the guidelines and George (Jonathan Scarfe) is a wealthy man in insurance who is a client of her business and is everything the Dater’s Handbook describes – and more. He plans dates, expands her view of art and has a very dependable and predicable point of view.Cass has to decide which is more important to her – a dependable man who will be there no matter what or one who takes time to surprise her and have fun with her.The movie moves along nicely with both relationships developing. Thankfully, the couples relationships stay casual until after Cass makes her decision. While the outcome was fairly predicable, I found that the route there was still surprising and a lot of fun to watch.

Fun, Cute, and Relaxing to watch!
This movie was fun, romantic, and lighthearted. It was relaxing to watch – something without swearing, nudity, or characters who are offensive. If you want something to watch that isn’t too “heavy” this is a nice choice. It made me laugh at times, and I was surprised to enjoy it since some people gave it bad reviews. The acting was fine, and I enjoyed seeing Meghan Markle in a movie, since I’d not seen her act before.

Good and lighthearted movie
Polaha was funny and charming and a absolute pleasure to watch. Megan showed good acting skills. Both were a joy to watch
